When you do use the full oven, remember to preheat only as long as the recipe specifies (many modern ovens will come to temperature well before the preheat time is up). If you’re not sure whether the food is cooking right, resist the urge to open the door and check – each time you do so, a large portion of the heat inside escapes and the oven uses significant energy to get back up to temperature.
